The merging of the faculties for Mathematics and Business, Economics and Statistics at the Oskar-Morgenstern Center on the Rossauer Lände symbolizes the special proximity between the two faculties. The Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics study program’s strong quantitative concentration has a long tradition. Game theory is one of the most prominent points of contact as scientist from both faculties conduct research in this area. Oskar Morgenstern, who was active at the University of Vienna, is regarded to be the founder and creator of the game theory.
The Oskar-Morgenstern Award was established in honor of this great Austrian economist and in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics. The exceptional distinction was awarded for the first time in 2013 on the occasion of the faculty’s relocation to the new address Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1.
